Greg (1st Trumpet) Print E-mail

Greg began his playing career at the age of 8 when he was given a school trumpet. The trumpet very quickly gave way to a cornet and Greg was soon playing in a local village band, Loxley Methodist Silver Band. At Loxley Band he progressed from 3rd cornet to Repiano before being asked to play Soprano cornet.

At the age of 16 Greg had to give up playing due to major dental work but briefly took it up again with Aberystwyth Silver Band whilst studying Computer Science at Aberystywth University . However, degree finals, a new wife and new job took their toll and Greg found no time for playing. That is until he saw the film Brassed Off which rekindled his love of brass bands and playing a brass instrument. He bought himself a new cornet and sought out a tutor who guided him to a distinction at grade 5 before joining the then Hosier & Dickinson (Watford) Band on 3rd cornet.

After a 3 year spell with the Hemel Hempstead Band and a further spell with the now renamed Watford Band where he played on the front row as solo tutti cornet, Greg is delighted to have joined the Northwood Volunteer Band on 1st trumpet; not least because of the free beer on offer!
